What's truly significant is the representation of marginalized communities, comprising over 65% of attendees, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity in the vegan movement.
This event coincided with the rising popularity of veganism, reflecting a broader cultural shift towards plant-based living. Moreover, VegFest serves as a platform for advocating social justice, particularly amidst a challenging time for black communities, highlighting the interconnectedness of veganism and community support.

Gigi Jones, the founder of Midwest Soul VegFest and LR/NLR Vegfest, is a true advocate for the power of plant-based living as a form of medicine.
Her personal journey of overcoming colon cancer in 2016 through lifestyle changes and organic living foods serves as a powerful testament to this belief.
Now, Gigi is dedicated to spreading awareness about the benefits of a healthy vegan lifestyle, especially for children's wellbeing.
As the author of "The V-Code" cookbook, a certified raw food chef, health educator, dietitian, nutritionist, and owner of Gigi's Vegan and Wellness Cafe', she embodies her motto of "saving lives one plant at a time.
"Additionally, Gigi's commitment extends beyond her cafe', as she has established the nonprofit organization "KC Health Initiative" to support, educate, and provide free plant-based meals to children in urban communities and schools.
